I first met Chris Smith in August of 2012 during a week in Chicago. He was kind enough to drive down into the city and spend a few hours chatting and shooting along the waterfront. Since then, I’ve had the pleasure of keeping in touch with Chris mostly through emails — and one botched late-night shoot at Disney World a few summers back thanks to a random thunderstorm.
Since then, I’ve had the delight of watching Chris grow his brand, Out of Chicago, and watch it turn into something truly great. The community that’s grown out of his efforts is admirable, to say the least. Getting back up to the city and joining in on an OOC conference has been on my list of to-dos for a while, and I was thrilled when I was finally able to make that happen this year.
I mostly helped out behind the scenes, grabbing photos and b-roll for the conference, but I was able to grab a few shots in between work and also meet some heroes of mine who I can now call friends.
